Daniel Farke says he has no problem if a "once in 20-year" situation occurs which means his Leeds United team need more than the 38-points target he has set them.

Leeds head to Chelsea this evening knowing a win at Stamford Bridge could move them as high as 13th in the table and nine points clear of the bottom three.

The Whites boss has spoken often this season of his belief an average of one point a game will be enough to secure safety in the relegation dog fight, with his Leeds side ahead of schedule on 29 points from 25 games. West Ham's current 23-point standing reinforces Farke's position, but with the Hammers finding some fight of late, the safety line could increase.

In the era of 20 teams in the Premier League the average points needed for survival is just 36, with no side for 10 years reaching that milestone and being relegated.

"It is not like if we achieve 38 points we want to stop winning," said Farke, who would need to lead his team to just three more wins this campaign to reach his target.

"Statistics show that if you have a one point average you have a good chance. If it so happens that this is a once in 20 years season where you have to win more points, then we have to win more points. But we aim to win as many points as possible anyway so I'm not too concerned on doing too much math, just on winning games."

Leeds will hope to strengthen their position with a positive return from the capital, but have lost in-form central defender Pascal Struik to injury, although England hopeful Dominic Calvert-Lewin has overcome illness to play.
