Report: Nottingham Forest almost signed star compared to Terry, stunned player rejected Dyche

Nottingham Forest endured a pretty lacklustre transfer window by their own normal standards.

Forest were keen to sign a number of players to enhance the chances of remaining in the Premier League this season, but a number of late bids fell through.

The Reds needed to make sure certain areas were well stocked, and the club did manage to do deals for Lorenzo Lucca, Stefan Ortega and Luca Netz.

Would you take Lewis Dunk at Nottingham Forest?

Forest saw a bid for Arne Engels rejected by Celtic at the eleventh hour, and when it came to midfield reinforcements, the Reds were left extremely frustrated.

It appears Forest wanted a new central defender too, and now details of some Transfer Deadline Day activity have come to light.

Nottingham Forest had bid accepted for Lewis Dunk

According to the Daily Mail, it would appear as though Brighton were ready to cash in on their captain, with the football club accepting a bid late in the day from Forest for Dunk.

The man who has spent all of his career at Brighton had other ideas, however, choosing to instantly reject the advances from Forest and Sean Dyche.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Dunk has been compared with John Terry across his career for his ability to put his body on the line and stick to the traditional art of defending his penalty area.

The 34-year-old has made 510 appearances for Brighton during his career and quite clearly, the defender has his heart set on finishing his career with the Seagulls.

That left Dyche frustrated in his efforts to bolster his defensive unit, with the Reds choosing to stick with what they had when it came to centre-backs in the squad.

Forest might return for Dunk in the summer

If Premier League football can be secured for another season, Forest might look to return to land Dunk, and increase the experience in the squad.

Dunk is a proven Premier League performer, and although this feels very much like a Dyche link, he might remain on the Forest radar.

Given how bad Morato has been since Dyche came in, it’s no surprise that the head coach looked for a new defender, with Dunk typifying what he likes in a centre-back.

Dyche might not get a chance to keep building at Forest after this season and now it will be fascinating to see whether the club goes back for Dunk after this latest rejection.
