Relief after Wolves mega-bid rejected – Teammate reckons summer return likely

Last week, Sport Witness covered FC Twente rejecting Wolves ‘mega offer’ for Bart van Rooij. The Premier League side arrived with a €10m bid on winter deadline day.

The right-back has expressed his unhappiness over his failed move to Molineux. He was ready to join Wolves despite their current league position.

Van Rooij’s Twente teammates ‘impersonated a wolf’ to tease him over his failed transfer to the English club in January.

While some of the 24-year-old’s teammates were joking, Twente’s decision to turn down Wolves’ mega bid has come as a relief to Daan Rots. That’s according to Twente Insite, a website focusing their coverage on the Eredivisie side.

Rots is a 24-year-old winger who plays on the right side, ahead of Van Rooij. The attacker has formed a partnership with the Wolves target. This makes him delighted over Rob Edwards’ side failure to sign the fullback.

“Bart is very good, I enjoy playing with him on the right wing. On the one hand, I was disappointed for him that the transfer didn’t go through,” he said.

“On the other hand, I was happy about it, but that’s more for my own benefit and that of the team.”

Van Rooij wasn’t certain whether the Premier League side would return for him again in the future.

He’s played 24 matches in all competitions so far and even managed two goals and four assists. The defender’s teammate remains confident Wolves or another club will make an approach for him in the summer.

“If he continues like this, the same or another great club will undoubtedly come for him in the summer. He’ll simply make a transfer,” Rots explained.

It’s unclear whether Van Rooij is open to joining Wolves in the event of their relegation to the Championship.
