What Seamus Coleman has privately told David Moyes ahead of his Everton contract ending - report

Everton have a number of big decisions to make ahead of the summer and one of them is over the future of Seamus Coleman.

The season is quickly passing by, with Everton well among the fight for a spot in the European qualification places.

David Moyes will be aware that he has a number of players who are set to depart at the end of the term as free agents.

Although, it must be said that Everton’s situation is not as drastic as it was last year.

Coleman will once again find his future up in the air as his contract at the club is scheduled to come to an end ahead of the summer.

Seamus Coleman has held a private conversation over his Everton role

Going back to last year, Moyes was adamant that Coleman would be kept by Everton in some capacity.

The Ireland international’s role has now become limited in the first team despite Everton’s lack of right-back options.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Coleman has privately told Moyes that he still feels he can contribute on the pitch.

However, Moyes wants Coleman to remain on Merseyside regardless of what role he could offer the club.

“Seamus is too important to this club. The club owes Seamus so much,” said Moyes.

“So we want Seamus to be around us, whether he’s a player or whether he is on the staff or whether he’s a groundsman, we want Seamus Coleman to be around, we certainly do, because he’s too important around this football club.”

Former Everton boss Roberto Martinez also loved Coleman, with the 37-year-old’s leadership carrying a lot of weight behind the scenes.

Coleman could become a future Everton coach

This is not to say that Coleman will become the next Everton manager after Moyes, but there could well be a coaching role for the defender.

Leighton Baines has really impressed Everton since he became one of the coaches.

When Sean Dyche was sacked, Baines and Coleman stepped up as the interim managers for the FA Cup game against Peterborough United.

Perhaps this is a route that Coleman will go down given, it is believed, he already has his coaching badges.

With the World Cup potentially ahead of him in the summer, a big decision on his club career lies ahead in the coming months.
