West Ham contact for midfielder – He says he’s leaving it to agents

West Ham United have recently made a move for Martinelli. After the speculation made noise in Brazil, the midfielder addressed his future following Fluminense’s latest match. His response showed no urgency about a possible exit.

The 26-year-old box-to-box midfielder spoke after Fluminense’s 1-0 win over Maricá on Sunday. When Brazilian outletsasked about his future, Martinelli stressed his happiness at the club and played down any rush to leave.

“I am very happy here. I do not have words to describe my feeling for this club, a club that has done so much for me,” he said. “If I could, I would renew my contract until 2050. It is natural that things come from outside, but I leave that in the hands of my agents and the board. Whatever is good for the club and good for me. I am not in a hurry about that. My head is calm and I am very happy.”

The West Ham target also reinforced his emotional connection with Fluminense. He highlighted his desire to keep building his story at the Maracanã. “I still want to play many matches here, with a full Maracanã, winning titles. That makes me very happy”, he added.

West Ham not the only club keen

Matheus Martinelli

Recent reports in Brazil have linked West Ham with the midfielder. Besiktas and Olympiacos have also been mentioned. Clubs from Saudi Arabia made enquiries earlier in the year, but none moved forward.

Fluminense have kept a firm stance. According to the Brazilian press, the club see Martinelli as a fundamental part of the squad. They do not plan to negotiate unless an exceptional offer arrives. Any bid below €20m (£17m), should not open talks.

A product of the academy, Martinelli has become a technical reference in midfield. He also carries symbolic value for supporters.

For now, his comments suggest West Ham interest sits in the background, while the player feels no pressure to define his next step.
