“Very telling” – Face to face meeting with Aston Villa star’s agent seen as sign

Inter Milan’s face to face meeting with Emiliano Martinez’s agents is a sign of their serious inerest in the Aston Villa star.

That’s according to El Intransigente. The Argentine outfit cover comments from journalist Germán García Grova, who has detailed Inter Milan’s efforts behind the scenes.

The Italian giants expect to push for changes in their goalkeeping department in the summer. Yann Sommer is nearing the end of his contract. He recently admitted that the club will hold talks about his future.

The Swiss goalkeeper is now 37, and many in Italy believethe club will replace him. Sport Witness have reported that Inter have included Martínez on their list of targets.

In fact, Sport Witness covered several reports on 22nd January about the Argentine. Various Italian outlets reported on a meeting in Italy with the Aston Villa star’s agents. That was seen as a clear signal of Inter Milan’s interest. Now El Intransigente cover García Grova’s comments on the matter.

“There’s a real chance that the starting goalkeeper, Sommer, will leave,” he said explaining that’s why Inter are looking at alternatives.

Martínez is one of them and according to the journalist, “it was a very positive meeting” with his agents. He believes that “the fact that they met face-to-face is very telling.” That is likely a direct response to reports in Italy that dismissed the interest in the Aston Villa goalkeeper out of hand.

With the January transfer window long closed, though, attention appears to be on the summer instead. And according to García Grova, García Grova “the idea is to start talking to see if it can happen in June, after the 2026 World Cup.”

That means Aston Villa fans should strap themselves in. Martínez’s future is likely to be the subject of intense scrutiny once again over the coming months.
