Report: Tottenham now eyeing move to sign 'beast' midfielder half the Premier League want in…

Tottenham are one of the clubs eyeing a move to sign FC Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

Spurs have had a poor season so far under Thomas Frank, and following defeat to Manchester United this past weekend they now sit 15th in the Premier League table, just six points above the relegation zone ahead of the midweek round of fixtures.

But the club are already looking ahead to the summer window for potential reinforcements, and they are now looking at a top young talent to add to the squad to ensure they're not in this position again in the future.

Tottenham Want to Sign Yirenkyi

Thomas Frank on the touchline

Yirenkyi, who has been described as a 'beast', has emerged as an exciting midfield prospect in Europe, with the 20-year-old shining in the Danish top-flight, and attracting the interest of a number of clubs across Europe.

Spurs are understood to have sent scouts to watch the Ghanaian in action, alongside more than half the Premier League, and have been hugely impressed by his power and ability at breaking up the play, as well as his technical quality and the way he drives forward.

His style of play has seen him compared to Michael Essien, and there is expected to be a very hotly contested race for his signature. Brighton were understood to be leading the race, viewing him as a potential replacement for Carlos Baleba, but they now face some very tough competition.

Tottenham would have to spend money to bring him in though, with Nordsjaelland having rejected a £15m bid from an unnamed club during the January window for his services, as they value him in excess of £20m, which would be a record sale for the Danish side.

Yirenkyi recently signed a new long-term contract at the club to protect his value, meaning Nordsjaelland are in a strong negotiating position, but a deal is unlikely to be blocked if the right offer comes in.

Tottenham Must Do Better

The current squad in north London is strong on paper, albeit decimated by injuries at this current moment in time. But there are some very talented young midfielders, like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, already at the club who are being let down.

Both players have performed well when given the opportunities, but they need support from the more senior players around them, and the situation would be the same should Yirenkyi make the move to Spurs in the summer.

It's possible that the deal could look like a bargain in years to come for whoever brings him in, but expectations should also be limited to begin with, and everyone show patience.
