Midfielder exit is off – Wolves ask €40m and kill out-of-window transfer

Wolves midfielder André keeps popping up in Brazilian transfer talk, but this latest round of rumours also ends the same way – the numbers simply do not work.

According to Bolavip, Palmeiras remain active in the market and are still looking for a holding midfielder, a clear request from head coach Abel Ferreira. André is a name the club like a lot. His profile, background at Fluminense and adaptation to the Premier League make him an obvious reference.

That said, context is key. Palmeiras have already spent heavily this window, signing Jhon Arias from Wolves in a deal worth around £21.4m (€25m). After committing that level of money, another Premier League-sized investment is simply not on the cards.

That becomes even clearer once Wolves’ stance is laid out. Brazilian reports say Wolves would only consider selling André for around €40m (£34.2m). For Palmeiras, that figure is far beyond reach and outside their current financial planning.

The message coming out of Brazil is fairly straightforward. André is admired, discussed and monitored, but not actively pursued. With a long contract in England and top-end pricing, a return to Brazilian football is not realistic right now.

However, as we have recently covered, there is still interest from Europe. Liverpool have been mentioned by Brazilian press as a possible suitor as they need midfield depth. Galatasaray was linked by Turkish media as well.

So unless the wider context changes significantly, Wolves are expected to keep hold of their midfielder for now. And while a few European sides are still in the picture, Palmeiras will turn their attention to more accessible options.
