Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United injury news ahead of the Premier League clash in North London.

Having ended their respective trophy droughts last season, both teams find themselves lingering in the bottom half of the Premier League table, leading to increased pressure on Thomas Frank and Eddie Howe.

Spurs sit 15th, four points behind Newcastle in 12th, and have won just two of their home games so far this term. By the same token, Howe’s side have only won two on the road.

Tottenham Hotspur injury news ahead of Newcastle United clash

Tottenham’s latest defeat came at the hands of Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime, which was compounded by Cristian Romero’s sending off and Destiny Udogie’s injury.

Romero was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Casemiro and will now serve a four-match ban instead of a three-match ban due to it being his second dismissal of the campaign. Meanwhile, Udogie is expected to miss the next four to five weeks with a hamstring issue.

The pair are among five defenders currently sidelined with Pedro Porro, Ben Davies and Kevin Danso ruled out for the foreseeable.

Elsewhere, central midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall remain out, as are attacking duo Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison.. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are both long-term absentees as they recover from their respective knee injuries.

Newcastle United injury news ahead of facing Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle remain without Tino Livramento and Fabian Schar until March and April, respectively, while there is still no return date for Emil Krafth, who hasn’t featured since November due to a knee injury.

Joelinton is nearing a return but the visit to North London will come too early for the Brazilian. However, Howe could have Lewis Miley and Anthony Gordon available after he revealed they would be assessed ahead of the game.

Miley hasn’t featured in any of the last three matches after taking a “nasty” blow to the leg during the 1-1 draw away to Paris Saint-Germain just under a fortnight ago. Gordon sat out of the Brentford loss after three days earlier coming off against Manchester City with a hamstring issue.

Howe said at his pre-match press conference: “Miley, I need to see today, we'll get another update on his progress. He's got a nasty bang to his leg, so it's like a dead leg that's dragged on a little bit longer than we thought, so we'll see how he is.

“Gordon, we'll make a check on today and see how he's progressing, hopefully a big improvement in him, Joelinton won't make this game.”
