Sagoe Jr heads to Sweden on loan

Arsenal have confirmed that Charles Sagoe Jr has joined Swedish side Kalmar FF on loan until next January.

The timing is a little unusual, given the newly promoted side don’t begin their Allsvenskan campaign until April, but it should allow the winger time to settle into his new surroundings during pre-season.

Since making his first-team debut for the Gunners in the EFL Cup against Brentford in 2023, the 21-year-old has spent loan spells at Swansea City and Shrewsbury Town. This season, he has returned to Arsenal’s under-21s, registering seven assists and scoring five goals in 14 appearances across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.

Speaking about his move to Sweden, Sagoe Jr told the Kalmar website:

“It feels great to be here and I am really excited to get started, start training and get to know my new teammates. I am looking forward to showing my qualities on the pitch and helping to win matches. This is a good step for me and my continued career.

After the conversations with the sports director and the management staff, I got a strong feeling that this was the right environment for me. Now I want to take advantage of the opportunity and help the team achieve good results in Allsvenskan.”

Best of luck to him.

In other news, Arsenal have signed 16-year-old defender Daniel McCarron from Northern Ireland side Dungannon Swifts.

The Impartial Reporter says he’ll stay put for the rest of the season while he completes his studies.

Like Max Dowman, he’s signed a pre-agreement on a professional contact that will kick in after time as a scholar.
