Hurzeler and Albion face 'reality' of the table as Hammers look to cut gap

And he has explained why he thinks they can bounce back from a performance against Crystal Palace he described as not good enough.

The Seagulls have won just one of their last 12 league games and are currently 14th in the standings ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Aston Villa.

They have seen Leeds and West Ham pick up points below them, leaving them eight point clear of the drop zone.

That will be cut to five if West Ham beat Manchester United on Tuesday evening.

Hurzeler, who guided his side to eighth place last season, said: "I think we have to see the reality of where we are at the moment in the table.

“I think it's important to be humble, to stay humble, to know where we are and to know that we have to get results. We have to collect points.

“It is definitely a truth. So the table never lies, but on the other side, we know what we're capable of doing.

“We know that we can show good performances. We just have to get the rewards."

Hurzeler said there had been discussions with the squad since the Palace game and they had looked at the Prem table.

But, speaking after the Tuesday afternoon training session and before the trip to the West Midlands, he added: “I saw a team full of energy

“I saw a team that gives me like a lot of confidence speaking now in front of you, speaking now in front of the press, because I see just a team that really sticks together.

“I see great players, great personalities, great characters.

“So therefore, I'm quite happy sitting down in front of you and speaking about my team because I'm confident there'll be there'll be a big chance tomorrow.”
