Newcastle United have been told the reason why Joe Willock’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur was disallowed. The Magpies thought they had taken the lead in the Premier League clash in North London on Tuesday night.
However, following a VAR check, the goal was disallowed after Willock was judged to be offside just before finding the back of the net.
Referee Anthony Taylor initially gave the goal, but Newcastle had their effort ruled out for offside following a check from Nick Hopton on VAR duties.
The Premier League went on to provide an explanation as to why Willock’s goal was disallowed with the Newcastle star judged to be offside in the build-up.
“VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Willock was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed,” a post from the Premier League’s Match Centre account on X read.
