Everton’s winless run at Hill Dickinson Stadium extended to six matches as – in a reversal in fortunes to their game at Fulham on Saturday – they threw away a 1-0 half-time lead to lose 2-1 to Bournemouth.

The Blues found a breakthrough on 42 minutes when Rayan brought down Jarrad Branthwaite in the area and Iliman Ndiaye struck the penalty low to Djordje Petrovic’s right and into the corner of the goal.

However, David Moyes’ men’s efforts were unravelled in the space of just three mad minutes in the second half as Bournemouth netted through a brace of headers from Rayan (61) and Amine Adli (64). Their collapse was complete five minutes after that when Jake O’Brien was sent off for a professional foul on Adli.

Jordan Pickford 6

Will be disappointed to have been beaten by a near-post header by Rayan for the equaliser, but he was badly let down by his defenders in front of him and given the slippery conditions, he dealt well with an effort from Evanilson after George had been bundled off the ball, although a couple of his kicks have been somewhat hit and hope.

Jake O’Brien 4

Everton had already suffered their defensive collapse of conceding two quickfire goals when he was sent off for a professional foul when bringing down Amine Adli in what was deemed a clear goalscoring opportunity, he’d used his height and physicality a few times to win personal duels, but we didn’t see too much from him going forwards.

Vitalii Mykolenko 4

It was like men against boys when Rayan absolutely devoured him in an aerial challenge to equalise at the back post, he was given the opportunity to get forward much more than we’ve seen recently, but there was nothing quite like his assist at Fulham when it comes to his final ball.

James Tarkowski 5

Forced into an early block to deny Ryan Christie, he’s marshalled a defence that looked far from convincing on a wet playing surface and he was caught in no man’s land for Bournemouth’s second goal.

Jarrad Branthwaite 6

Uncharacteristically gave the ball away cheaply early on but popped up in the Bournemouth area to win the penalty when caught by Rayan with a rash challenge, although Everton could have done with him asserting his aerial presence for what was a shambolic second goal to concede.

Idrissa Gueye 5

The 36-year-old looked heavy-legged in what was his third game in 10 days after returning from his Africa Cup of Nations triumph with Senegal and although he’s also made some clever interceptions just outside Everton’s penalty area he also accidentally clattered into Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall at one point.

James Garner 7

Tried to get things going on what was a messy night, as demonstrated by his long-range free-kick, the home crowd liked his shoulder to shoulder challenge on Ryan Christie that sparked a promising counter-attack after what had been a lacklustre start from his team.

Iliman Ndiaye 7

Well-struck penalty into the corner of the goal to fire Everton ahead, he previously had the ball in the back of the net with a back-heeled effort but was offside and had a back post effort pushed onto the post by Djordje Petrovic, he also put a chance on a plate for Barry.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 6

Plenty of endeavour, but like so many of his team-mates he was guilty of not having his passing range correct when trying to pick out George when surging forwards.

Tyrique George 5

Failed to build on his promising debut at Fulham with what proved to be a disappointing first start as despite some youthful energy, he was guilty of some poor touches, including allowing a Mykolenko pass to roll out for a throw-in.

Thierno Barry 4

Had his head buried in his hands for much of the remainder of the match after being hooked following a couple of costly misses with Ndiaye putting a second half chance on a plate for him which was blocked having got his angles badly wrong when reacting to a rebound after Petrovic spilled Garner’s first half free-kick.

Substitutes

Harrison Armstrong (on 62 for George) 5

Tried to get his side back into the contest with some inventive passing but not tracking Adli for the second goal is a stern lesson for him.

Beto (on 62 for Barry) 5

Had more about him tonight than Barry when he came on in what was a scrappy finish.

Michael Keane (on 92 for Mykolenko)

Thrown on up front in stoppage time desperation stakes.
