Superb United and it ends Spurs 1 Newcastle 2

Spurs 1 Newcastle 2 – Tuesday 10 February 2026 7.30pm

A super effort in north London to lift the gloom.

As Supertramp asked in the Seventies: “Crisis, what crisis?”

Every man in blue and orange, even the late subs, made a contribution.

Newcastle United produced a dominant first-half display, with plenty of the pass-and-move football that has been sadly lacking, especially away from home.

It earned just the one goal for a Newcastle team who looked far superior to Tottenham. Could we put the game to bed before running out of gas?

Spurs improved after the break, finally forcing Pope into a save, as they had a bit of success overloading our right flank.

The danger signs were there with an hour gone. Almost inevitably, we conceded.

This time, however, we hit back almost immediately to retake the lead. Fresh legs were needed with 70 minutes gone. On cue, Murphy replaced Elanga and Tonali replaced Ramsey.

A match that had been open from the start became even more stretched. Our passing lost its sharpness, we were conceding possession and territory.

The final 10 minutes we were camped in our half. Thankfully, Spurs were almost toothless. Willock and Gordon made way for Woltemade and Osula.

Bruno G went to ground in the 90th minute and Hall replaced him.

Six minutes of stoppage time seemed to last an eternity. Hall could have gone for the jugular but went for the corner and lost the ball.

Into the 96th minute and the only sound was the Toon Army as home fans headed for the exit.

A third away win of the Premier League season. Newcastle United survived a minor siege in the second half but dug in and dug deep for a priceless three points.

The delight that was clear in Eddie Howe’s celebration with the travelling hordes spoke volumes.
