Rio Ferdinand issues verdict on West Ham fans after draw with Manchester United

West Ham United were denied what would have been a brilliant win over Manchester United in cruel fashion on Tuesday night.

Indeed, while Nuno Espirito Santo’s side impressed at the London Stadium, the fact is that West Ham drew 1-1 with Manchester United.

That doesn’t particularly help with their survival campaign, although much will depend on what happens between Nottingham Forest and Wolves on Wednesday.

Tomas Soucek of West Ham United celebrates 1st goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Manchester United at London Stadium on February 10, 2026 in London, England.

Fans could be forgiven for feeling low, however. While the team’s performance was good, the manner of the late concession obviously stings.

Still, West Ham certainly gave their fans something to shout about, which certainly hasn’t always been the case.

In fact, the atmosphere was so good that Rio Ferdinand even noticed.

The atmosphere at the London Stadium has long been criticised and supporters have every right to dislike it.

Still, nights like Tuesday do prove that it can be something of a fortress.

Soucek the scorer but did anyone outshine him for West Ham?

Ferdinand, who played for both clubs of course, issued a rather glowing verdict of the atmosphere on social media platform X after the game.

He wrote: “Seskooo what a finish at the end… Not at the races tonight – big credit to West Ham, resolute, limited Manchester United to chances. Atmosphere at London Stadium was tops!”

West Ham United’s home form this season is interesting

Doubts have been raised about West Ham’s ability to play at home, considering just how vocal supporters have been about the London Stadium.

Still, their home form isn’t what is on course to send them down as things stand. Though not brilliant, they’d be 17th in the Premier League table if only home matches counted.

They have recorded more wins on the road, but their home form hasn’t been as bad as Tottenham’s, who are very much in the relegation battle with the Hammers.

The team need the supporters on their side for the battles to come and Tuesday night was a good – if slightly disappointing – start.
