Tottenham Player Ratings vs. Newcastle: 3/10 for Dragusin, 4/10 for Bissouma

Tottenham’s woes continued as they lost 2-1 to Newcastle.

Tottenham’s winless Premier League run in 2026 extended to eight matches after a frustrating 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at home. Malick Thiaw gave the Magpies the lead right before half-time, and though Archie Gray equalized midway through the second half, Jacob Ramsey grabbed the winner moments later to compound Spurs’ misery.

Here are the player ratings for the Tottenham stars against Newcastle United:

Guglielmo Vicario – 5/10 Should have parried Thiaw’s header away from danger rather than straight back into the six-yard box for the opener. Made himself big to deny Anthony Gordon one-on-one in the second half. Nothing he could do about Ramsey’s finish.

Archie Gray – 7/10 Spurs’ most consistent performer on a poor night. Grabbed the equaliser after reacting quickest to Pape Matar Sarr’s header across goal. Created Tottenham’s best chance of the second half after his run from full-back saw him put in a dangerous cross, but Mathys Tel failed to keep his shot down.

Radu Dragusin – 3/10 Had a nervy moment early when his scooped clearance awkwardly dipped back to Vicario. Half-pressed for Newcastle’s disallowed goal and got stuck in no man’s land. Thankfully Willock was offside. Struggled physically against Gordon and failed to impose himself.

Micky van de Ven – 6/10 Aggressive in the tackle throughout, quite often pushing high and getting tight to his man. Played a role in Spurs’ equaliser, doing enough to prevent Nick Pope from claiming the corner. Came close to grabbing a late leveller but fired high.

Djed Spence – 5/10 Barely had opportunities to push up on the left flank and was focused on defending throughout. Struggled to provide any width or attacking threat.

Yves Bissouma – 4/10 Anonymous in midfield. Allowed Newcastle to dictate the tempo and failed to win his battles in the middle of the park. Substituted after a foul-laden half.

Pape Matar Sarr – 6/10 Grabbed the assist for Gray’s equaliser with a header across goal from a corner. Looked to push forward when he could but lacked quality in the final third. Fired a shot from range that Pope dealt with comfortably.

Conor Gallagher – 5/10 Created Spurs’ best opportunity in the first half with a cross that found Simons, who failed to convert. Gave the ball away cheaply following a fast break in the second half, with his pass short and leading directly to Newcastle scoring their winner. Poor decision-making at a crucial moment.

Wilson Odobert – 5/10 Barely involved. Had one decent moment where he cut the ball back for Simons, who couldn’t make anything of it. He was replaced before half-time due to a possible injury.

Xavi Simons – 6/10 Had a few bright moments and got on the end of Gallagher’s cross following a fast break but failed to hit the target. Continued to get on the ball in the second half but became the second player booked for simulation. Frustrating evening.

Dominic Solanke – 4/10 Had no joy whatsoever against Thiaw and Sven Botman. His hold-up play was poor, with Solanke often failing to make it stick. Completely isolated up front.

Substitutes:

Joao Palhinha – 6/10 Came on for Bissouma and went straight into midfield. Did help disrupt Newcastle’s rhythm slightly as Spurs saw more of the ball.

Mathys Tel – 5/10 Replaced Odobert but couldn’t make an impact. Wasted Spurs’ best chance when he blazed over from Gray’s excellent cross.

Randal Kolo Muani – N/A Came on late and barely touched the ball as Newcastle defended deep.
