Michael Carrick sends a very classy message about West Ham after Man United draw

West Ham United fans will no doubt love what Michael Carrick had to say after Tuesday night’s draw with Manchester United.

Carrick played for West Ham United between 1999 and 2004 and while he made many returns to east London as a player, Tuesday night was his first ever visit as a manager.

It was not a particularly happy one, either. Indeed, West Ham drew 1-1 with Manchester United and the Red Devils were lucky with that.

Indeed, it took a brilliant Benjamin Sesko goal deep into stoppage time to deny the Hammers a crucial win at the bottom of the Premier League table.

A point doesn’t do much for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, unless Nottingham Forest drop anything against Wolves on Wednesday.

As it stands, West Ham remain on course for relegation. Carrick, however, hopes that doesn’t happen.

The Man Utd boss was interviewed after the game.

He conceded that his side weren’t at their best on Tuesday night, though that was largely because West Ham were so good defensively.

Speaking about his former club to TNT Sports, Carrick admitted that he’d love to see West Ham stay in the Premier League.

“I would love them to stay up,” he said. “It was a big part of my life and I have great memories here so hopefully they stay up.”

Michael Carrick was relegated as a player at West Ham United

Carrick knows all about relegation from a West Ham perspective.

The former midfielder was part of the Hammers side who suffered that indignation after they were relegated back in 2003.

Interestingly, he was the one leading star who stayed for at least a season.

While the likes of Joe Cole, Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe left the club, Carrick stuck around for one more year before leaving for Tottenham following the Championship play-off final defeat to Crystal Palace.

Carrick was an excellent player at West Ham and his recent comments are only likely to make him more popular.
