Bruno Guimaraes limped off in the closing stages of Newcastle United’s 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

It was only a few days ago that Guimaraes released a passionate statement via social media in the aftermath of the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat to Brentford at St James’ Park.

The Brazilian returned from four games out with an ankle injury to register a goal and an assist, but couldn’t prevent a defeat as United were booed off the pitch after a third successive Premier League loss saw them slip to 12th in the table.

Guimaraes wrote: “Delighted to be back almost three weeks after my last injury.

“I know, and we all know, our responsibility as players, and that things are not happening the way we would like. I believe that in these four years together, this is the first time we are going through a real dip in form. We have to work harder, because difficult moments are always opportunities for us to become better than we have ever been.

“There is still a lot ahead of us, but we are certain that inside our club no one will let go of anyone, and we will give everything to enjoy better days.

“Special thanks to the club’s physios for getting me back fit in record time, as well as my staff for helping me return to the pitch as quickly as possible. Howay NUFC🖤🤍3️⃣9️⃣”

Newcastle United issue Bruno Guimaraes injury update

And Guimaraes put some of their words into action after helping his side clinch only their third Premier League away win of the campaign. Malick Thiaw gave Newcastle the lead before Jacob Ramsey restored it after Archie Gray equalised.

The victory, however, was tinged with some concern after Guimaraes was forced to withdraw in stoppage time due to a hamstring injury.

Providing an update on Guimaraes, Eddie Howe said: “I'm not sure. He's a little bit worried. He said he’s not sure he's never had a problem with his hamstrings before, so is it cramp? Was it a muscle problem?

“It probably feels more of an injury to me but let's wait and see. We'll try and stay positive at this moment.”

Like Howe, Guimaraes is also left hoping that the injury isn’t serious.

Again taking to social media after the game, the 27-year-old wrote: “Very happy with the win! This looks much more like what we’re capable of doing. Great character from the team. Once again, I hope it’s nothing too serious and that he can be back soon.🖤🤍3️⃣9️⃣”

Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier’s classy Eddie Howe gesture

Despite limping around the pitch at full-time, Guimaraes still found the energy, alongside teammate Kieran Trippier, to push Howe in front of the away end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It was a huge show of support with Howe in recent days fielding questions over his Newcastle future.

In response to the gesture, Howe said: “It was the fact I was pushed to the front and had no choice, really. It's not really my style. I think it was probably more in recognition for the fact that we haven't run away enough. Our supporters have travelled far and wide to watch us and we feel like we've let them down on a few occasions.

“It's nice today that we get that moment to celebrate with them and not just me but the players get a chance, some of the new players get a chance to experience the love from the fans. That was a special connection and I'm grateful it's still there.”
