Tommy Conway knows Middlesbrough will need many more performances like the one at Sheffield United on Monday, if they’re to achieve their goal of winning promotion to the Premier League.
Conway’s goal at Sheffield United helped Boro move top of the Championship as they beat the Blades 2-1 at Bramall Lane. But with 15 games remaining, Conway and his Boro team-mates are refusing to get too carried away.
Instead, they and head coach Kim Hellberg are quickly focusing on the next game - which on this occasion just so happens to be a huge top-of-the-table clash with Coventry City.
While Boro found themselves well-placed at the top of the table, and in fine form after six consecutive league wins, there is still much work to do. But Conway is convinced if they continue to show as much quality on the ball as they did at Sheffield United, and accompany that with the same kind of fight they showed to win the game too.
Conway told Sky Sports: “I think to get out of this league you need to show performances like that, doing both sides of the game really well.
“It’s a tough place to come, Bramall Lane. We felt that last year when we come here and came off on the wrong side of the result. This year we’ve managed to win, so buzzing with that.

“You know coming here they’re going to put pressure on you and you’ve got to try and soak that up. We spoke about, dealt with that and then scored two goals at the right time. I think we managed the game very well.
“I know it’s a cliche, but all we can do now is worry about ourselves. At the end of the day, it’s on us. Other teams can do whatever they want, but we’ve got to win Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday if we want to get out of this division.
“We have to just keep focusing on ourselves. If that means we go top tonight, then we go tonight. That’s a nice feeling, of course, and we do look at that league. But we’ve quickly got to move onto the next game and do everything to get three points again.”
