Christie delighted with win as Cherries 'want to play for top half or even more'

Christie captained the side in his first start since September, and he looks to be approaching his best after a season disrupted by injury to this point.

Bournemouth came from a goal down at half time to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Rayan and Amine Adli in their first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton went down to ten men, too, after the second Cherries goal, but that didn’t seem to affect them too much as Bournemouth were on the back foot for much of the final 20 minutes.

But Christie praised the team for holding on to secure the win.

“Brilliant result, obviously we're delighted,” he told Premier League Productions.

“Such a hard place to come, and they create such a kind of hostile atmosphere and it's tough. And I think you saw that even they go down to ten men and still dominate the game and make us defend our box.

“So credit to the boys for holding on, and I think especially last 10-15 minutes, so the back four especially were superb. And when you come up against the long balls that they throw at you, so yeah, big three points.”

It was a flat first half with few chances for the Cherries, as Iliman Ndiaye gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot.

But Bournemouth were brighter in the second half, and had an excellent spell where they scored twice around the hour mark to complete the turnaround.

Asked what was said at halftime, Christie said: “I think just to start playing a bit more.

“I think maybe in the first half we tried to fight fire with fire a little bit too much. Especially as the game opened up, we found kind of pockets lots of space to play in it, especially the first goal. I think it's a great move, great pass by Adrien [Truffert] and Rayan at the back post, and getting on the scoresheet.

“So, I think we dominated that spell in the middle of the second half and did enough to take the three points.”

The victory takes the Cherries back into the top ten of the Premier League, at least until tonight, with the team among the form sides in the league since the new year.

And Christie said the team are motivated to carry that form through in the coming weeks, in what is a defining period in the season.

“It's a good start, it was part of our motivation going into this,” he said.

“You win tonight, the next couple of games coming up, this little period before the international break decides what you're playing for coming into the season.

“So, we want to be playing for something, top half or even more, wins like that tonight help that.”
