Wayne Rooney has been out of management since December 2024.
Plymouth Argyle sacked Wayne Rooney just over a year ago and since then, he’s entered the punditry world.
Rooney has also been tipped to have a boxing fight, with American superstar Jake Paul even mooted as an opponent at one stage.
What would your message to David Moyes be after another loss at home? 😫

But, that never materialised, and now the former Everton star has once again thrown his name into the hat to return to coaching.
Wayne Rooney would return to coaching with Everton or Manchester United
Speaking on Sam Allardyce’s No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Rooney admitted that he’d only return to coaching if he could join Everton or Manchester United.
“Yeah, so different, I’ve got to answer this for a few weeks, like would I go into the United at some point? A different role, of course, would I? I think probably the only two I’d go back into are Everton or United.

“And I’m not stupid, not as a manager, but in a different capacity, because they’re the two clubs which are close to my heart. They’re probably the only two.”
David Moyes brought Rooney through when he was a young player at Everton, so the pair do have an existing relationship.
Although, it seems unlikely that he would join Moyes’ coaching staff, as Seamus Coleman looks like the next one in line to partner the Scotsman on the touchline when he decides to hang up his boots.
Everton may need a different coaching perspective
Ultimately, the final decision will always rest on Moyes, but his assistants can play a pivotal role in the success of the football club.
So, perhaps the Scotsman could benefit from a different perspective in his coaching staff, and Rooney would bring that.
The 40-year-old has typically played a possession-based style of football throughout his managerial career, which differs from Moyes’ pragmatic approach.
Rooney would also command a lot of respect among the players at Finch Farm, and could be of great help to the attacking players.
Thierno Barry would certainly learn a lot from Rooney, as would attacking midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
