Roberto De Zerbi tipped for immediate Premier League job after Marseille exit

Tottenham have been told to sack Thomas Frank and hire Roberto De Zerbi as his replacement.

That was the verdict of former Spurs man Jamie O’Hara, who fears the club are heading to the Championship.

Frank was booed as Tottenham slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Tuesday.

The north London club are just five points clear of the drop zone with 13 games left to play.

talkSPORT understands the club's CEO Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange has assured Frank he will get more time.

However, the board are split and the Lewis family - who own Spurs - will make the final call.

“Thomas Frank has got to leave this football club. Get him out of Spurs. He's useless,” O’Hara told The Sports Bar.

“He's one of the worst managers we've ever had. This team is shocking.

“It is so bad. Honestly, duds all over the park. Duds everywhere. Recruitment: shocking.

"Thomas Frank: shocking. Football: shocking. Everything about it is an absolute shambles.

“You're going down. I'm sitting here watching the results. I want Chelsea to win because of this. I want Man United to win. I want West Ham to get beat.

“I'm sitting here looking over my shoulder. We're 16th in the table.”

The situation threatens to get worse for Spurs too with Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium their next opponents on February 22.

O’Hara added: “I don't think Spurs have got the minerals to stay in the Premier League. I don't think they've got the minerals to get a result.

“When I look at the fixtures we've got coming up, I don't know where three points are coming from. When I watch the performances, it's nowhere near good enough.”

Who should Spurs get next?

A man who is available right now is former Brighton boss De Zerbi, who left Marseille late on Tuesday night.

talkSPORT also understands that De Zerbi was on Spurs' list before Ange Postecoglou was hired.

The former Brighton boss would be open to the job.

USA boss Mauricio Pochettino would also be keen to come back to Spurs after the World Cup.

O’Hara said: “If I'm the Spurs board right now, I am phoning him up and getting him in at Tottenham tomorrow. Come in till the end of the season.”

Co-host Jason Cundy argued that it is unlikely he would want to go to Spurs in their current state.

Cundy said: “Why would he take it to the end of the season?”

“He doesn't need a job. He's got a pay-off. He's going to be on gardening leave. He's going to sit there and he's going to wait this one out.

“Serious question. Why would De Zerbi dust off his passport and rush to north London?”

O’Hara added: “He's still got Champions League football.”

Cundy replied: “You're telling me that that's the best job that he can wait for right now? They might be in the Championship next season.”

Frank’s reaction

Spurs boss Frank spoke to talkSPORT immediately after the game and admitted he understood the anger from fans.

Frank told talkSPORT: “I understand the frustration. I understand there's been frustration over maybe two years in terms of the position in the Premier League.

“Playing in Europe and the Premier League is a challenge that we haven't dealt with well enough as a team, as a club.

“That's what we need to build very, very hard on going forward.”

When asked about Spurs being in a relegation battle, he added: “We are not in a good position. Of course, we are not. We are very aware of that.

“There's only one way, that is fight, fight and fight.”
