Thomas Frank Arsenal claim comes back to haunt him as Spurs sack decision leaked after…

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a decision on Thomas Frank’s future following Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle United.

Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur was huge for under-pressure Eddie Howe, but proved too much for Thomas Frank.

Following the match, a report emerged via David Ornstein in The Athletic claiming that Frank had been sacked as Spurs boss.

Ornstein wrote: “EXCLUSIVE: Thomas Frank sacked as Tottenham Hotspur head coach. #THFC working through various possible contingency plans to replace 52yo Dane as club sit [16]th in Premier League - 5 points above relegation zone after 2 wins from 17 matches.”

It comes after Frank claimed he felt he was ‘1000%’ the right man for the job and was convinced he’d be in charge for Tottenham’s next match against Arsenal in less than two week’s time.

Spurs won the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou last season and qualified for the Champions League despite finishing 17th in the Premier League. The North London club have once again impressed in Europe but their league form has been called into serious question with injuries taking their toll.

Spurs fans predict Thomas Frank sacking

Newcastle took the lead against Spurs through Malick Thiaw before Archie Gray equalised in the second half.

The home side were level for just four minutes before Jacob Ramsey put The Magpies back in front with his first goal for the club.

It was only Newcastle’s third Premier League win away from home this season while Tottenham have won just twice at home all season in the league.

Towards the end of the match, Spurs fans chanted ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ directed at Frank. An accurate prediction as it turned out.

Thomas Frank reacts after defeat to NUFC

Following the match, Frank said in response to the fan chants and boos: “I understand the fans' frustration. We are in a position we don't want to be in. We are working very hard day and night to change.

“I also think it's a situation the club has been in for almost two years, and in the last season as well. Clearly a pattern that we struggle to manage in Europe and from a league.

“That's something me, the team, the club, the players, we need to learn to do even better physically and mentally to deal with that. And part of that, of course, is the 11 injuries, now 10, plus the suspension, plus another one today, which of course doesn't help in a situation like that.

“And then we face a Newcastle team that is struggling a little bit lately with the team they put on the pitch, compared to what they've done the last three years. I think it's fair to say it's quite different to us.”

When asked if he will be in charge against Arsenal, Frank added: “Yeah, I'm convinced I will be. And I think it's... I understand the question. I understand it's easy to point at me, but I also think it's never only the head coach, or the ownership, or the directors, or the players, or the staff.

“It's everyone that can do something right. You will build something that can last. Of course, we are not in a top position now. Everyone knows, the directors, ownership, myself, what position we are in and what we need to improve and what we need to do better.

“1,000% sure [I’m the right man]. I'm also 1,000 per cent sure that I never expected us to be in a situation like this, with 11, 12 injuries on the back end of this and what we've been facing.

“But I know when you need to build something and you need to get through things, you need to show unbelievable strong resilience.”

Spurs will now begin the search for Frank’s replacement ahead of that big clash against Premier League leaders and fierce rivals Arsenal.
