Report: Former Everton player is now 'strong candidate' to become Tottenham's next manager

Everton may have faced some difficulties in recent months, but they are nowhere near in the same mess that Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in.

David Moyes is really struggling to get the Blues in any sort of consistent form at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this season.

Things started off well for Everton at their new home, but Tottenham managed to end the run of unbeaten games on the docks last year.

Spurs have certainly endured their own issues, with Thomas Frank now being sacked on the back of their 11th Premier League loss on Tuesday night.

Wayne Rooney has admitted he’d return to coaching for Everton if that opportunity was ever to arise.

What would your message to David Moyes be after another loss at home? 😫

He seemed fairly pleased with his players despite the defeat 😬

However, there is another former Everton player who is now in a strong position to land the managerial role in north London.

Former Everton player in strong position for Tottenham job

Earlier in the year, John Heitinga joined Tottenham as one of Frank’s assistant coaches.

It now looks as if the former Everton defender could be set to replace the now-sacked Spurs boss in north London.

According to TeamTalk, Heitinga is a ‘strong candidate’ to be given the interim job for the remainder of the season.

How would you feel about Wayne Rooney joining Moyes’ staff at Everton? 🤔

It is believed that Spurs are eyeing a potential return for Mauricio Pochettino after the World Cup in the summer.

Heitinga has previously managed at Ajax, but his spell in the Netherlands did not last very long before he was sacked.

This is not the first Premier League role the 42-year-old has held, with Heitinga having also coached at Liverpool under Arne Slot.

It will certainly make for interesting viewing if he gets the role given just how depleted Tottenham’s squad is through injuries.

Everton remain stable but need improvements from David Moyes

The home form has been really poor from Everton over recent months, but it must be remembered that the project on Merseyside is just getting started.

Moyes was left furious after losing to Bournemouth and that is no surprise.

He must accept some of the blame as he has put the players in place, like Thierno Barry, to make the mistakes throughout the game.

The talk of European football will annoy a lot of fans and it is understandable given just how inconsistent Everton have been this season.

However, if, and it’s a big if, the Blues can sort their home form then there’s no reason why they cannot qualify.
