Tottenham sack Frank after eight game winless run

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked manager Thomas Frank following their 2-1 loss against Newcastle United on Tuesday evening.

The Lilywhites confirmed on Wednesday morning that the Dane had been dismissed, ending his spell at the club after just eight months.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 by the Magpies on Tuesday night, with Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey scoring either side of Archie Gray’s equaliser at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That result leaves the North London side 16th in the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone.

Frank leaves the club amid on a run of eight league games without a victory, with Spurs having won just two of their last 17 games in the competition.

The Dane took charge of Tottenham last summer, ending a seven-year spell in charge of Brentford during which he oversaw the club’s first ever promotion to the Premier League.

His predecessor – Ange Postecoglou – had been sacked after guiding Spurs to the Europa League, but also overseeing a 17th-placed finish in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites have shown little, if any, improvement under Frank, though, and the ex-Brondby manager leaves north London with a record of just 13 wins from 38 matches across all competitions.

Tottenham’s home form has been a particular concern, with the London side having won just two of their 13 league games at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium; only 20th-placed Wolves have won fewer home matches in the Premier League this term.

Spurs thanked Frank for his ‘efforts to move the club forward’, but didn’t reveal who will take charge when they face rivals Arsenal in the north London derby later this month.
