Marinakis loves him: Nottingham Forest desperate to appoint "one of the top" managers Pep has…

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is now desperate to appoint a title-winning manager, with Sean Dyche on thin ice.

Dyche on thin ice after Leeds defeat

Dyche will have been relieved Benjamin Sesko bagged a late equaliser for Manchester United at the London Stadium yesterday, but the Tricky Trees are now just two points clear of West Ham United, after losing 3-1 against Leeds United last time out.

Forest have a golden opportunity to extend the gap to five points this evening, however, as they take on bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers at the City Ground, with Rob Edwards' side winning just one Premier League game all season.

Speaking ahead of the game, Dyche made it clear that he doesn't expect to be sacked anytime soon, saying: "We came off after the Palace game (a 1-1 draw) and got a really important point. It was a good point following a ten v 11 situation (after Neco Williams’ red card) and he (Marinakis) was congratulating me."

"I don’t think over one game it is going to be that extreme where he is suddenly going to say: ‘Right, we need to change everything at the club for a fourth time’. You never know. But I am a realist, and he is as well, about the current situation and what we took over here."

However, according to a report from TEAMtalk, owner Marinakis is furious with how Nottingham Forest have been performing this season, given that he was expecting another push for the top six, and the manager is on very thin ice.

Dyche is under major pressure, and Marinakis is desperate to appoint Fulham manager Marco Silva as a replacement, with the 48-year-old set to be available at the end of the season, at which point his current contract expires.

However, the Greek businessman could even be willing to make a change before the summer, and he knows Silva well from his time at Olympiacos, during which time the Portuguese manager won the league title.

Silva earns high praise from Pep Guardiola

Marinakis is not the Fulham manager's only admirer, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola recently saying: "Fulham get better every season, with the movements. With the patterns and quality they have, the composure with their play and the speed they have.

"Defensively and offensively, they are really good. Marco is one of the top, top managers I've faced. He is a top, top manager and has the destiny to be one of top ones in a few years."

Although the former Olympacios boss hasn't won any major honours at Craven Cottage, he did win the Championship title in the 2021-22 campaign, while also winning the Portuguese Cup in the 2014-15 season, during his time at Sporting CP.

Silva, who likes to use a 4-2-3-1 system, could be a fantastic appointment for Forest, but it would be a gamble to change manager yet again mid-season, so Forest may be better off waiting until the summer, at which point he could be available for free.
