Everton unlikely to sign Jack Grealish on loan again, says finance expert Stefan Borson

Jack Grealish’s season at Everton has come to an end after undergoing surgery on his foot.

The Manchester City loanee has been one of the standout performers for Everton this season, registering eight goal involvements in the Premier League.

So, it’s a real blow for David Moyes, who moved quickly to replace the 30-year-old with Tyrique George on transfer deadline day.

With Jack Grealish done for the season, let us know your verdict on his campaign! 🤔

He provided six assists and two goals in the Premier League 👏

There are already suggestions that Grealish would be open to returning to the Toffees next season.

It has also been reported that Man City would allow Grealish to leave on loan again, however, a finance expert has now rubbished those claims.

Man City want permanent deal for Jack Grealish amid claims Everton could sign him on loan again

Finance expert Stefan Borson has replied to a report on X, which explained that Man City are prepared to sanction another loan move for Grealish, rather than Everton having to pay a permanent fee.

Borson stated that City wouldn’t entertain that, as they would want a permanent transfer.

“Right now, City would obviously not entertain a loan (where it means a proportion of wages and no fee). If there is insufficient interest in a permanent deal then, of course, City will take what they can get for the last year of his contract.”

Finish the sentence: Next season, Jack Grealish will be playing for…

Why would Grealish even want to return to Man City? 🤣

He continued: “Just not the case that any conclusions can be possible on a loan in February. Plus many ways a deal can be crafted permanently. The idea City accept the best they can do is a contribution to his salary and a £12-15m amortisation hit in the P&L is not believable.

“The only way he goes on a final year loan is if the market is simply not there for a permanent deal. Too early to establish that in Feb.”

Everton shouldn’t spend more than £25m on Jack Grealish

If Everton are to re-sign Grealish, it very much looks as though they will have to spend a pretty substantial portion of their transfer budget in the summer.

The Toffees do hold a £50m buy-option on the England international, but that is unlikely to be activated by the Friedkin Group.

A deal in the region of £25m would be fair for both parties, and anything above that should be avoided.

Grealish turns 31 in the autumn, so he is entering the final few years of his peak, and will have very little sell-on value.

Everton did explore a deal to sign Harry Wilson in January, so he could be a better option in the summer, as he’s due to become a free agent.
