Newcastle United have now opened talks to sign an attacking addition, who is the subject of interest from a number of Premier League sides.
Howe "grateful" for Newcastle support
It's not been an easy season for Eddie Howe. After recent defeats, questions have been asked about his position for the first time in his Newcastle tenure. Questions that come just one year after Champions League qualification and a historic Carabao Cup win to truly summarise the ruthless nature of Premier League football.

The Magpies could fend off competition from their Premier League rivals...
Those questions could only truly be answered on the pitch. For all the talking done in the build-up, the Tottenham Hotspur game was one that the Magpies simply had to win as two desperate sides squared off.
That is why, after Newcastle battled to secure all three points in a 2-1 victory, Howe was so grateful to feel the support of the visiting fans in North London. With the pressure on, his side were back to winning ways and he was back to conducting full-time celebrations.
The Newcastle boss told reporters at full-time when asked about the celebrations in the away end and his connection with the fans: "That was a special connection. I'm grateful it's still there."
That connection with supporters will play a huge part if Newcastle are to turn their season around from here. At this stage, European qualification in some form must be the priority. Champions League football is likely out of reach, but a Europa League spot is still certainly up for grabs.

The Magpies are leading the interest in a centre-forward.
Secure a place in that competition, and the Magpies' summer window could instantly become far more routine.
One player who will want to be playing European football is Dusan Vlahovic. According to TeamTalk, Newcastle have now made contact to sign Vlahovic from Juventus, launching a preliminary enquiry.

The Serbian striker also has interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, with Champions League football a priority, but Newcastle could still be outside contenders in the hunt for his signature.
It's been a tough few years for Vlahovic, who has gone from being a £66m striker to the fringes of Juventus' starting side - playing just 682 minutes in Serie A so far this season.

Appearances 162
Goals 64
Assists 16
Despite his current struggles, Vlahovic's record suggests that he is still a serial goalscorer. 64 goals in 162 appearances, especially given that he's no longer a guaranteed starter, is far from disastrous.
After breaking their club record to sign Nick Woltemade in the summer and also spending big to welcome Yoane Wissa, Newcastle still need a reliable striker at the peak of his powers. That's why Vlahovic could be their man.
Dubbed "strong" by former Juventus boss Igor Tudor and "unbelievable" by journalist Dean Jones, the 26-year-old could be on his way to the Premier League this summer.
