After a period of intense scrutiny, unlike anything he’s encountered so far since his appointment in 2021, Eddie Howe would have been the most relieved man inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when the final whistle blew last night.
It could and should have been more comfortable than the 2-1 scoreline suggested, but it was a vital three points, a rare win on the road and the bounce-back performance we needed after last weekend’s dismal defeat to Brentford.
One brilliant moment after the game saw our naturally reserved boss pushed forward towards the away end by Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes.
It may be one win, nudging us up to 10th and still with LOTS of work to do, but it was a brilliant moment seeing the boss passionately celebrate a massive victory on the road in front of an away end who sang his name all night.
Watch the moment below, showing Jacob Ramsey also pushed to the front by Jacob Murphy after his match-winning goal and man of the match display:

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Howe was asked about his moment of celebration with the away fans, admitting it’s ‘not his style’ but important to give back to the travelling support who haven’t had enough to shout about on the road this season.
“It was the fact I was pushed to the front and had no choice, really! It’s not really my style.
“I think it was probably more in recognition of the fact that we haven’t won away enough. Our supporters have travelled far and wide to watch us and we feel like we’ve let them down on a few occasions.
“It’s nice today that we get that moment to celebrate with them and not just me, but the players get a chance, some of the new players get a chance to experience the love from the fans.
“That was a special connection and I’m grateful it’s still there.”
With Aston Villa to come on Saturday in the FA Cup, followed by a Champions League trip to Qarabag next Wednesday and Man City away in the Premier League next weekend, let’s hope this is a win we can build on.
