Arsenal U21s set for tough task against Newcastle

After going three matches without defeat, which has included three clean sheets, Arsenal U21s are back in action again on Friday night with a home game against their Newcastle United counterparts.

Newcastle won 4-3 against Aston Villa last time out, which suggests that Arsenal’s streak of clean sheets could come under threat.

It has been a new-look Arsenal side in recent games, with many of the players in the team still eligible to play at U18 level, including recent first-team debutants Ife Ibrahim and Brando Bailey-Joseph.

With Charles Sagoe Jr having joined Kalmar FF on loan, Bailey-Joseph has a chance to establish himself as a regular in the side, with the winger likely to be part of a regular front three including Andre Harriman-Annous and Evan Mooney.

In defence, recent acquisition Jaden Dixon will be pushing for a start at right-back having made his debut for the club as a late substitute against Everton last time out.

The central defensive partnership of Marli Salmon (who has been installed as captain aged just 16) and Brayden Clarke has worked to excellent effect in recent weeks, while Josh Ogunnaike has been chosen ahead of Marcell Washington at left-back of late.

Midfielders Demiane Agustien and Theo Julienne, who operate just ahead of Ibrahim, have also had some encouraging displays in recent weeks.

Matheos Ferreira scored a hat-trick for Newcastle last time out and Arsenal will be eager to keep him quiet.

Arsenal will go into the game in 12th place in the table as they look to continue their recent momentum.
