Burkina Faso international Dango Ouattara powered Brentford to a historic win over Newcastle United on Saturday night, handing the Bees their first win at St James’ Park in 92 years.

Brentford emerged as 2-1 victors in their Premier League clash, winning their first away game against Newcastle since the first time since the 1934-35 campaign, when both sides were in the English second tier.

Ouattara provided the assists for Vitaly Janelt’s equaliser in the 37th minute, helping the Bees draw level.

The scoreline was locked at 2-2 from the 79th minute as Bruno Guimarães brought both sides level again from the penalty spot, but the stalemate did not last long.

Mathias Jensen played the Burkinabé winger into the Magpies’ box with a beautiful pass, allowing Ouattara to hit the ball first-time on the bounce. His strike beat goalkeeper Nick Pope in the 85th minute to ultimately give the Bees their historic win.

Ouattara, who bagged two assists in four games at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, registered his first Premier League assist of the season and took his goal tally to five.

Brentford now sit seventh on the standings, level with reigning champions Liverpool on 35 points, putting them in a great position to challenge for a place in next season’s European competitions.
