Former Leeds manager Sam Allardyce could replace Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

Allardyce was appointed by Leeds with only four games remaining of the 2022-23 season to prevent relegation from the Premier League.

Instead, he managed to win only one point out of 12 available and left shortly afterwards, with the Whites back into the Championship.

Daniel Farke has done an excellent job since replacing Allardyce, who has not been in another job ever since.

Frank’s sacking at Spurs means that several candidates are in line for the vacancy, and the former Whites manager has been thrown into the conversation by Danny Murphy.

Spurs currently sit just five points above the relegation zone in 16th place, with Leeds’ 2-2 draw against Chelsea moving them above the North London outfit in the table.

Frank had been on the chopping block for some time after doing such a poor job and the Tottenham fans had fully turned against him.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 11 February, Murphy claimed that Allardyce would be a good fit for Spurs, which was described as a “shock”.

He said: “I would be thinking that way, I’d be looking at someone experienced like Allardyce.

“I think someone with safe hands right now would be able to manage fires and stop Tottenham from getting relegated.”

Simon Jordan sarcastically replied: “Oh, they’ll love Allardyce over at Tottenham, won’t they?”

Despite having a wealth of experience throughout all levels of the English game, Allardyce certainly isn’t remembered fondly by Leeds fans.

Although Leeds are currently on course to avoid relegation this season, that certainly wasn’t the case in 2022-23.

Why do Leeds fans hate Allardyce?

Tottenham fans would question why fans in LS11 feel so strongly against Allardyce, given that their status in the top flight was already in a precarious position prior to his arrival.

However, it was his comments in the media that angered them so much.

Allardyce dropped Illan Meslier from the team when he took over, saying it was a difficult but necessary decision because the Frenchman was not in the best of form and it was harming him to continue playing each week.

Although Meslier returned to the side under Farke, last season’s poor performances have left his future uncertain at Elland Road.

Allardyce was also dismissive of Georginio Rutter by highlighting that he didn’t feel Leeds had an alternative striker on the bench when Rodrigo carried on playing while injured in a 3-1 loss to West Ham.

That was interpreted by pundits and fans as a damning reflection on Rutter’s role in the squad.

He also said that he was on the same level as Man City boss Pep Guardiola due to his experience and knowledge of football, which angered supporters who wanted him to solely focus on keeping the team in the top flight, rather than speaking highly of himself as a manager.

Tottenham may need a manager who can unite the fanbase with the team as they look to avoid relegation, and it’s safe to say that Allardyce won’t bring that to the table.
