West Ham and Everton among potential rivals for Leeds United in summer transfer race - report

Leeds United could reportedly face a summer battle with the likes of Everton and West Ham United for Fulham’s Harry Wilson.

He ended up staying at Craven Cottage and has enjoyed the best season of his career to date.

The tricky winger has registered nine goals and five assists in all competitions but despite the scintillating nature of his form, a new contract has not been signed.

He is currently on course to become a free agent in the summer and will undoubtedly have a raft of suitors if he does indeed become unattached.

Harry Wilson latest

According to former scout Mick Brown, a clutch of Premier League clubs would be looking to sign Wilson if he was available for a free transfer.

Leeds are said to be among them, as are Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth.

A move to the Championship appears incredibly unlikely, therefore Leeds and West Ham would have to be successful in their bids to avoid the drop. Everton, Palace and Bournemouth, meanwhile, would have to avoid being dragged into the survival battle.

Brown told Football Insider: “It looks like Wilson will be leaving Fulham. If you look down the Premier League table, I can name at least five clubs who would be interested in signing Harry Wilson if he was available on a free.

“You’ve got the likes of Palace, Bournemouth and Everton who are all of the sort of level I would expect him to remain at, and maybe teams like West Ham and Leeds too.

“There will be others looking at him as well, but I think if he is going to leave Fulham, it’s not going to be a jump to a top club, he’ll stay around that same area. He can score goals and anybody who has proven they can find the net becomes well-coveted.

“I think he’s having a bit of a purple season, without being disrespectful, I think he’s performing above his usual level for Fulham at the moment.

“That’s why I don’t necessarily think the top clubs are going to take a gamble on him, if he leaves Fulham it’ll be to another team in and around that level.”

Harry Wilson’s career path

Wilson started his career at Liverpool but found first-team opportunities limited at Anfield. He was loaned out on six separate occasions, with Hull City among those who borrowed his services.

His final loan move away from Liverpool took him to Fulham and a permanent deal was struck by the Cottagers in 2022.

Wilson has made a total of 174 appearances for the club, registering 34 goals and 43 assists across all competitions.
