Bruno Fernandes remains one of the best players in the Premier League and is showing no signs of slowing down, but many at Manchester United feel the club captain’s future is already mapped out.
Last season, Bruno Fernandes was named Manchester United Player of the Year for a fourth time.
Fernandes turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer to remain at Old Trafford, but rumours regarding a summer exit haven’t completely disappeared.
Although results didn’t go Ruben Amorim’s way at United and he played Fernandes in a more disciplined role, the 31-year-old remains a key player this season.

The return of Michael Carrick as Amorim’s successor has led to the Portugal international being deployed in his preferred role as a No.10. He is one of many players performing at a higher level following the changes made by the newly appointed head coach.
It would be deemed a controversial decision if United were to cash in on Fernandes in the summer. Especially when he is still having such a key role in the team, and it takes a long time to replace players of that level.

Bruno Fernandes drawing comparisons to Pep Guardiola
It has been said about multiple United players in the past that they were destined for management.
More United News
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Carrick are two prime examples, as they both managed United, and we all know it doesn’t get any bigger than that.
The same is now being said about Fernandes, with the Daily Mail claiming that sources at United believe the former Sporting CP ace will become a manager or head coach when he retires from playing football.
The report compares Fernandes to Man City manager and former Barcelona midfielder Pep Guardiola because they both live and breathe football.
Guardiola likes to watch Vanarama National League matches in his office, while Fernandes is known for watching matches on his phone when travelling to games.
Fernandes was watching Portugal U19s at a time when his fellow teammates were relaxing, leading to many at United thinking he is a manager in the making.
It’s worth noting that Fernandes previously tipped Carrick to be a great manager, which proves he also has an eye for managerial talent.

Bruno Fernandes surpasses last season’s tally for big chances
Fernandes has already created more big chances this season than he managed in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
The Portuguese Magnifico created 16 big chances for United in the league last term.
Now, with 1,127 fewer minutes played, Fernandes has 17 in the 2025/26 season.
That shows Fernandes is performing at a higher level than he did last season when he was voted the club’s Player of the Year.
Fernandes is an example to all players when it comes to consistency.
