Wataru Endo injury update after the Liverpool midfielder was stretchered off against Sunderland.

Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Wataru Endo after Liverpool’s victory over Sunderland.

The Reds earned a 1-0 triumph against the Black Cats, becoming the first team to win at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League this season. Virgil van Dijk’s second-half header proved the difference as Arne Slot’s side earned a deserved three points.

Endo delivered a huge performance as a makeshift defender but suffered an ankle problem when making a clearance at the back post. The Japan international had to be stretchered off. And Slot admitted Liverpool are expecting the worst but will have to check the extent of Endo’s issue.

The Reds head coach said: “Wataru Endo’s injury doesn’t look good and I expect him to be out for a long time again. What a mentality from him, he stayed on the pitch when things don’t look good. That tells you the mentality the team and him showed today."

Endo had an ankle injury earlier in the season that sidelined him for around six weeks.
