It’s been a busy midweek of Premier League action, with nine games taking place over the past 48 hours.

Tuesday night saw Newcastle United end a five-match winless run, beating Spurs 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to goals from Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey.

That win saw us move back into 10th on 36 points, just one behind **Everton** (8th) and **Bournemouth** (9th) after the Cherries beat the Toffees 2-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on a night where **Man Utd** (4th) drew with West Ham and **Chelsea** (5th) lost a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Leeds.

There was good and bad news for Newcastle last night. We stayed above of **Sunderland** (11th), who would’ve gone above us with a win or draw, but lost ground on **Liverpool** (6th) after Arne Slot’s side became the first side to win at the Stadium of Light this season in a 1-0 away win.

Elsewhere, Saturday’s FA Cup opponents **Aston Villa** (3rd) moved 14 points clear of us thanks to a late 1-0 win over Brighton, while **Crystal Palace** (13th) missed a big chance to move one point behind Newcastle, losing 3-2 at home to Burnley despite racing into an early 2-0 lead.

**Fulham** (12th) also remained on 34 points, losing 3-0 away to **Man City** (2nd), although it was interesting to see Erling Haaland come off with a ‘niggle’ just 10 days before our Premier League trip to the Etihad.

Tonight, **Brentford** (7th) take on league leaders Arsenal at the GTech, where Newcastle will be hoping for an away win to keep the Bees just three points above us after their win at St James’ Park last weekend.
