Sean Dyche has been sacked by Nottingham Forest after a 0-0 draw with Wolves that left them just three points above West Ham
The Premier League relegation battle is heating up with West Ham turning their form around in recent weeks. The Hammers were minutes away from picking up all three points against Manchester United on Tuesday night.
The Irons delivered an inspired defensive display but were undone by a clever Benjamin Sesko goal in the 96th minute. Forest remain just three points ahead of them, however, after failing to beat Wolves.
That result proved to be the final straw for the City Ground club, who wasted little time in dismissing Dyche. A club statement was released shortly after midnight on Thursday, with just 57 words offered as an explanation.
It read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”
Dyche had only lost one of his last six games in charge, which came against Leeds United at Elland Road last week. They did beat West Ham at the London Stadium a couple of months back, in a result that could have a huge bearing on the survival battle.
Forest are two points behind Tottenham, who sacked Thomas Frank on Wednesday, and three behind Leeds. They are only four points behind Brighton and Hove Albion and five adrift of Crystal Palace after both clubs lost on Wednesday night.
The Seagulls were beaten by Aston Villa while Palace threw away a 2-0 lead to lost 3-2 against Burnley.
Dyche was only in charge of Forest for 114 days as they now seek their fourth manager of the season. They sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and replaced him with Ange Postecoglou before also relieving the ex-Spurs man of his duties.
