Replacement lined up already as another of Leeds United's relegation rivals sack manager

Those around Leeds United in the Premier League relegation scrap have made some bold decisions.

One of Leeds United’s relegation rivals are looking for their fourth manager of the season following confirmation of an overnight sacking.

Nottingham Forest have been unable to climb away from relegation trouble since appointing Sean Dyche as head coach in October. The experienced boss was nominated for Premier League Manager of the Month in January but was winless from three so far this month.

Dyche’s side were well-beaten by Leeds last week, with a 3-1 scoreline feeling fair based on how the game played out. Forest drew 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace before that loss and on Wednesday evening, played out a 0-0 stalemate with rock-bottom Wolves despite having 34 shots.

There was already pressure on Dyche heading into last week’s meeting with Leeds and more ahead of Wednesday’s game against Wolves. Further dropped points and the failure to score then forced explosive owner Evangelos Marinakis into a decision.

Forest published a statement at 12.31am Thursday morning. It read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”

Dyche becomes the third Forest boss to be sacked by Marinakis this season alone, and the second to depart after midnight. Nuno Espirito Santo was also dismissed in the early hours back in September while Ange Postecoglou was handed his marching orders just 20 minutes after a defeat to Chelsea in October.

Forest new manager hunt latest

Forest look to have set their sights on manager number four, with the Guardian among those reporting on interest in Vitor Pereira, who himself was sacked by Wolves in November. The Portuguese coach is known to Marinakis, having worked under him at Greek outfit Olympiacos.

Pereira is believed to have already held talks with Forest over the now vacant managerial role, with his man-management skills a key factor. Any incoming manager will have a full week to prepare the Reds’ Europa League play-off first-leg against Fenerbahce, with no FA Cup game following their defeat to Wrexham last month.

Two of Leeds’ relegation rivals are now on the lookout for a new manager, with Tottenham Hotspur sacking Thomas Frank on Wednesday. The North London club dropped below Daniel Farke’s side in the Premier League table on Tuesday night after losing 2-1 at home to Newcastle while the Whites drew at Chelsea.

Leeds are one of just two teams in the Premier League’s bottom six yet to change manager, the other being Burnley who look set to be relegated despite beating Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Farke was under heavy pressure in November but has overseen a quite incredible turnaround in form, losing just two games from 13 since.
