A Tottenham star has been added to Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace Dani Carvajal next season.
Pedro Porro signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Sporting CP in January 2023, and he has been a feature in the first XI at N17 since.
The Spanish international has taken significant strides to his game, showcasing immense quality and leadership on the pitch. Regarded as one of the best attacking full-backs in the Premier League, the 26-year-old has registered two assists in 23 league games thus far this season.
Like several of his Spurs teammates, Pedro Porro has endured a dip in form this season. Yet, that hasn’t stopped him from being coveted by a European heavyweight ahead of the summer transfer window.
Pedro Porro added to Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace Dani Carvajal
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Pedro Porro has been added to Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace the legendary Dani Carvajal. Wesley Franca of AS Roma and Bayern Munich’s Konrad Laimer are the other two names on the list.
Dani Carvajal has found it difficult to break into interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa’s XI, despite being fit. The Spaniard who finished 4th in 2024 Ballon d’Or has barely featured for Real Madrid in recent times, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the great right-back’s association with Los Blancos appears to be coming to an end.
Real Madrid snapped up Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer from Liverpool last year. However, Alexander-Arnold has not found continuity and stability at Santiago Bernabeu due to injury problems. As there is uncertainty around the England international’s future in less than a year at Santiago Bernabeu, Porro is viewed as a valued option by the club’s key decision-makers.
Porro would be tempted to join Real Madrid
Carvajal has been one of the best right-backs in the world for several years now, helping Madrid win multiple titles. However, he is 34 now and has struggled with injuries and form this season, with Les Merengues sacking coach Xabi Alonso in January and replacing him with interim manager Arbeloa.
As such, Madrid are planning for Carvajal’s future and wants Porro to replace him next season. However, Spurs are not willing to listen to offers for their right-back as he is a crucial cog to the North London club. The 26-year-old may not have hit top form this season, but he is a leader and reliable figure at the back.
However, if the Lilywhites fail to qualify for Europe, Porro may ask to leave in the summer. Also, the Don Benito-born star’s head could be turned if Madrid knock on Tottenham’s door for his services. The prospect of playing for the greatest team in Europe and competing for major honours is something the full-back will not easily let go of; thus, if Madrid show concrete interest in him, Porro will push to join them.
