The Paraguayan media have now provided an update on the nature of his setback, and Versus have a report on the 29-year-old and mention ‘injured again’ in their title.
Versus claim the player struggled with muscle discomfort in Sunderland’s 3-0 league win over Burnley on February 2nd. Le Bris had replaced him in the 86th minute against the Clarets.
Alderete has suffered the same injury in his side’s latest defeat to Liverpool, and this could be concerning for him.
Unicanal have backed up Versus’ claim. The Paraguayan TV station took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share more updates on the centre-back’s situation.
According to the report, the South American had to leave the pitch due to a discomfort and would undergo examinations.
Unicanal state the Sunderland player will have to wait for the results to find out the ‘extent of the injury’.
Alderete key for Le Bris and Sunderland
Alderete was concussed in Sunderland’s league win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in October, forcing him to miss three league matches.
There were concerns in Paraguay over his situation at the Stadium of Light in November. He didn’t feature for the national team despite making it to Gustavo Alfaro’s squad for November’s international break.
The former Getafe man has played 22 matches in all competitions for Sunderland this season and has been an integral part of Le Bris’ squad. The Black Cats would be hoping his latest setback isn’t serious and he’s soon available for selection.
