On February 6th, Sandro Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso said he will hold talks at a later stage with Newcastle United over his client’s future.
The Italy international is on the radar of several clubs, both from the Premier League and across Europe.
Tonali’s future beyond this season at St James’ Park remains uncertain, while Newcastle United are already thinking about his successor.
Eddie Howe’s side identify player to replace Tonali
Newcastle United have ‘activated Plan B’ while the 25-year-old’s future is still to be clarified. That is at least what Jeunes Footeux are reporting.
The Magpies have set their sights on Tyler Morton, and the report focuses on their interest and Lyon’s stance.
Morton is a product of Liverpool’s academy but failed to cement his place at Anfield. Last summer, the Reds sold him to the Ligue 1 side, and the move has worked out well for him so far.
The midfielder has played 29 matches in all competitions and managed two goals and three assists. He could return to the Premier League to join Newcastle United, as long as the French club sanction a move.
Eddie Howe’s side have been following the former Liverpool man for a while and see him as a ‘real option’ for the next window.
Newcastle United believe the 23-year-old is ‘capable of bridging the gaps between the lines and providing a viable solution’. This is according to the outlet, and he could be a solution if Tonali were to move elsewhere.
Ligue 1 side open to sale and set price
The Ligue 1 side reportedly invested €12m to buy him from the Merseyside club in August 2025. Sport Witness recently covered claims from elsewhere that Arne Slot’s side retain a 20% sell-on clause.
There have been claims explaining that Lyon would be open to sell him for €20m after this season. Jeunes Footeux dismisses it but explain Lyon are already thinking about a sale to make a quick profit.
According to the report, Lyon will refuse to negotiate Morton’s potential sale for less than €30m.
