Glasner’s side came into the game off the back of a 1-0 win over rivals Brighton, but the Palace boss was left infuriated with the complacent his players showed after going two ahead.

“When you defend so sloppily, like we did in these 8-9 minutes, you deserve to lose,” he said.

“We controlled the game, scoring nice goals, but then we forgot about the basics, about the duels, second balls, defending, complaining about the referee's decision, end ball, stopping to play.

“We were still complaining when we conceded a goal. Maybe it felt too easy to be too in love controlling the game. Then we got punished in the second half, we tried everything.

“But if you throw away the game like we did in these 8-9 minutes, you don't deserve to win. That's why we have to accept it, but honestly it's very tough to do.

“There we had to focus on defending, and today we lost the focus to defend. We wanted to pass a little bit, it felt like Sunday afternoon in the garden with my kids. I don't tackle them because I don't want anything.

“But we just lost our foundation, the intensity. I watched the goals back, and it's just terrible, honestly. We have to kick off, we kick the ball long, and they have a huge chance.

“It's incredible, we play long balls, we are walking, not even running, we are walking. This year, or in the last months, we don't get a consistent performance in every phase.

“Sometimes we miss the chances, we don't score, sometimes we don't defend well, sometimes we concede goals from set plays, but we don't get it for 95 or 100 minutes.

“It's inconsistency in every phase of the game and in every area. I can't explain why this happened, because I praise the players very often.”
