Real Madrid are likely to be tasked with replacing several players when their contracts expire this summer. One of those could be Dani Carvajal whose future is in doubt amid a lack of game time under Alvaro Arbeloa.
Reports claim that Carvajal has been frustrated due to his time spent on the bench during Arbeloa's reign. The veteran Spanish right-back has remained on the bench in each of his side's last five La Liga outings.
Carvajal has written his name in the club's history books and will go down as one of the greatest Los Blancos full-backs in history. But a major rebuild could ensue and his contract is up in June.
Real Madrid eyeing Tottenham star
One of Madrid's potential replacements for Carvajal is Pedro Porro who has been linked with the club for several years. He is enduring a disastrous season with Tottenham Hotspur who have faltered in the Premier League and just sacked their manager Thomas Frank.
According to Fichajes, Porro is a "highly valued option" and has the experience and attacking prowess that could benefit Los Blancos. He will have two years left on his contract this summer and might be on the lookout for a new club due to Spurs' struggles.
Porro has been a mainstay in the Lilywhites' team, appearing 34 times across competitions this season and posting five assists. The Spanish right-back won the UEFA Europa League with the London giants in the 2024-25 campaign.
The 26-year-old's former manager, Ange Postecoglou, spoke glowingly of his ball-playing attributes. He said (via TBR Football):
“He does have such quality with his ability to hit the longer pass, but also the quality of his crosses, , every time he puts the ball in the box, whether that’s a set piece or just a cross in general, it causes oppositions problems.”
There's no word on how much Spurs will be demanding for Porro who is one of their most important players. He's been with the club since the summer of 2023 after arriving from Portuguese side Sporting CP.
Porro is on a three-man shortlist
Porro isn't the only option Madrid have in mind if Carvajal departs and they require a replacement. AS Roma's Wesley Franca is also under consideration and the Brazilian has caught the eye in Serie A.
The report claims that another possibility is Konrad Laimer of Bayern Munich although a potential deal for the German could be expensive. A potential move for the versatile right-back is believed to have come from the order of managerial target Jurgen Klopp.
Carvajal could yet stay at the Bernabeu given its likely that a new permanent manager will be replacing Arbeloa next season. If that's the case it doesn't feel likely that a right-back will be a priority.
