Mace reveals Everton Women key to success

**Ruby Mace believes Everton Women’s unity in strength will be their key to success.**

The Blues have opened up a five-point cushion on the WSL’s relegation zone after recording back-to-back victories over Aston Villa and London City Lionesses.

Manager Brian Sorensen was relieved of his duties in between the two games, with the Villa result marking only the club’s first WSL win at Goodison Park this season.

Under-18s coach Scott Phelan has been installed as the Dane’s successor for the remainder of the campaign as Everton look to maintain their top flight safety.

But Mace, who arrived from Leicester CIty last summer in a club-record deal, is confident that the tight-knit nature of the squad can act as a springboard.

She said: “The one thing about this team is we’re together.

“We’ll always stick together no matter what, no matter if there’s a new manager or not.

“The same principles stay and that’s working hard and doing the best we can for the badge.

“I think everyone has that mindset and if we work together, we’ll achieve good things.”

“Coming into Everton, there’s a sort of expectation to be an Evertonian,” added the England international..

“Everyone’s taught me that. I do think it’s a little bit inside of me, that kind of grip between the teeth and to know that everyone has that \[too\] helps.”

Everton host relegation rivals West Ham at Goodison on Sunday afternoon before taking on neighbours Liverpool in the Women’s FA Cup fifth round next weekend.

“Coming into Liverpool, I thought it would be full of people who support Liverpool, but it’s not,” admitted Mace.

“Everyone I’ve spoken to is mostly Everton and it’s nice to know that I play for the team that is most supported in this city.”
