U's FA Cup clash with Sunderland to commemorate Joey Beauchamp

The fixture has been designated to commemorate the former U's midfielder who sadly passed away in 2022 after struggling with mental health issues.

Beauchamp, who also played for Swindon Town and West Ham United, made over 400 appearances for Oxford, scoring 80 goals, and the FA Cup game this weekend will recognise his extraordinary contribution to the club and the ongoing work of The Joey Beauchamp Foundation.

The match will bring players, supporters, partners, and the wider football community together whilst underlining Beauchamp's legacy and the Foundation's continued commitment commitment to improving mental health awareness and support, both within football and beyond.

The Foundation has said that it is proud to work alongside the club and its community to ensure that Beauchamp's legacy continues to make a positive difference.

Commemorative activities throughout the day will include an 11th-minute applause during the match, a raffle, a silent auction, and half-time crossbar challenge prize.

The Joey Beauchamp Foundation is a newly established charitable organisation dedicated to supporting mental health and associated social issues within the community.

The Foundation will use the opportunity of the FA Cup game to reflect on the Yellows' legend's legacy and to reinforce the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for mental health.

Oxford go into the match against Premier League side Sunderland off the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Norwich City on Tuesday.
