Hurzeler says players had big say in response to Villa defeat

And he said players had a big say following the 1-0 reverse.

The Seagulls had plenty of the game but were sunk by an unfortunate own goal in the closing stages.

Asked what he could say to his side, Hurzeler told The Argus: “I think the team took responsibility on their own, so I wasn't speaking that much after the game.

“They sent messages to each other that we have to keep doing these things that we did today, that we have to control the controllables, that we have to stick together, that we have to put our chin up again and search for the next opportunity.

“In the end, we can't always blame game luck. We have to take responsibility for the results, especially me, and I feel very sorry for the fans because they definitely deserve more because they were great today. They supported us.

“But we also know the reality where we are at the moment and to get out of these kinds of situations, you really have to stick together.

“You really have to work harder, and that was the message after the game.

“Sticking together, working hard, going on the training pitch tomorrow and being the best version of yourself.

“Getting good recovery, being professional in recovery, all the controllables you have to be on your highest level, on your highest standards.

“There are a lot of controllables.

“It's not only on the pitch, it's also beside the pitch.

“How you support each other. How you communicate with each other.

“How is your body language? How do you talk to the staff members?

“These are all things that matter because in the end, you only come out of this situation as a team, as a club, as a group full of togetherness, and that's what we try to do.”
