It’s been a week of managerial casualties, with two Premier League managers biting the dust on Wednesday.
Thomas Frank was sacked by Spurs the morning after Newcastle’s 2-1 win in North London, then we saw Nottingham Forest dismiss Sean Dyche last night following their 0-0 draw with Wolves, leaving the Reds fourth bottom.
In Ligue 1, Robert De Zerbi was sacked by Marseille this week after a 5-0 defeat to PSG and their early elimination from the Champions League – and it looks like a former Mag could replace him.
According to reports in France, ex-Newcastle United defender Habib Beye is currently the leading contender to take the job.
This comes from Foot Mercato, who report that the 48-year-old is now under serious consideration and the current favourite to take charge after becoming a free agent following his dismissal at Rennes on Monday.
Beye spent much of his career at Marseille, spending four years with the French giants before joining Sam Allardyce’s Newcastle United for a bargain fee of £2m back in August 2007.
Over 15 years on from the former Senegalese international’s exit, he ended his career with spells at Aston Villa and Doncaster Rovers, before going into management.
His managerial career began with Paris-based Red Star, now in Ligue 2, and his latest stint saw him last just over 12 months with Rennes, joining in January 2025 and departing in February 2026 after four-straight defeats left them sixth in Ligue 1.
