That’s the admission of the Clarets boss, who opted not to name the Albanian striker in his match day squad.

Instead, Lyle Foster and Ashley Barnes were the preferred striker options on the bench to provide backup to Zian Flemming, who started the game in attack.

Broja’s place on the bench, meanwhile, was taken by the returning James Ward-Prowse, who made his Clarets debut as a substitute having been ineligible to face his parent club West Ham at the weekend.

While Broja has been carrying a slight niggle in recent weeks, that’s not the reason why he was absent for Wednesday night’s trip to Selhurst Park. “It was just a squad decision really and just obviously how I felt best,” Parker explained.

"He’s had a little problem, but my decision was just that. At this moment, I can only name a certain amount of players and that was the way we went.”

Jordan Beyer, Axel Tuanzebe, Connor Roberts, Josh Cullen, Mike Tresor and Zeki Amdouni all missed the game through injury.
