The application for the mobile sauna unit has been approved

The green light has been given to a new facility which will get tourists in the Borders all steamed up.

Scottish Borders Council has approved a bid from Forest Holidays to site a mobile sauna at its Glentress Forest holiday lodge development, which opened in November 2024.

The sauna is to be sited on land at Kittlegairy Hill, north of Linnburn Farmhouse and is to sit in a small clearing, away from the cabins and set back from the access track.

The area is predominantly covered by mature Stika Spruce that will provide a high degree of screening for the proposed sauna when viewed from nearest cabin and access track.

In his report approving the application, Ranald Dods, SBC planning officer, states: “The site is located within an area which served as a picnic area in the Glentress forest and is within the Tweed Valley special landscape area

“The building would be ancillary to the principal holiday use of the site. It is of an acceptable design and would not look out of place amongst the chalet buildings of the complex.

“It would not be detrimental to the objectives or overall integrity of the special landscape area.”
