Leeds United's Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest are on the verge of appointing their fourth head coach of a disastrous season.

Former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is poised to become Sean Dyche's replacement after the latter was dismissed in the wake of the 0-0 stalemate with Wolves. Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou were relieved of their duties earlier in the campaign.

Discussions with Pereira have progressed rapidly and negotiations to finalise an agreement appear to be reaching their conclusion. Reports have indicated the 57-year-old is preparing to put pen to paper on a contract at the City Ground running until 2027.

Pereira will assume control of a Forest side precariously positioned above the drop zone with 12 fixtures remaining.

They hold a three-point cushion over 18th-placed West Ham United, though Nuno's Hammers have demonstrated strong recent form.

Against Wolves the Reds missed the chance to close the gap to Leeds, who beat them 3-1 when the sides met at Elland Road last week. They are now three points and two places behind Daniel Farke's men - who have a six-point buffer on the bottom three.

Pereira guided Wolves to Premier League survival last season but has been without employment since his departure from the West Midlands club last November.

He has an established relationship with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis from his tenure managing Olympiacos in 2015, when he delivered a league and cup double for the Greek club.

Pereira's managerial CV also includes spells at Al Shabab, Flamengo, Corinthians, 1860 Munich, Al Ahli and Porto. Furthermore, he has enjoyed two stints at Fenerbahce - and if everything proceeds as anticipated, the Turkish side will provide his inaugural opposition as Reds manager.

Forest are set to travel to Istanbul next Thursday for the first leg of their Europa League play-off, before welcoming Fenerbahce to the City Ground a week later. Pereira's inaugural Premier League match at the helm will be a home game against Liverpool on Sunday week (February 22).
